Building Senegal Classroom

Rebecca Meng is a senior at Woodson High School and is an active volunteer.

Classrooms in Senegal is a project founded by two French teachers  Elizabeth Séye from the U.S. and Sellou Diallo from Sénégal in Nov. 2020 to fix L'école 6e, a junior high classroom in Khombole, Sénégal, destroyed annually during the rainy season. 80 students learn in an unideal environment and donations are needed to help rebuild broken roofs so the children can study in a proper classroom.

To further this cause and help reach a donation goal of $6700, Rebecca went to her church and promoted the program. She also introduced Classrooms in Senegal to her culture club at Woodson HS and started a fundraiser for this operation. By selling boba tea to her classmates and asking individuals for donations, she contributed 25% of the funds to this project,

After a few weeks, the project reached the $3,700 mark and the money was immediately transferred to Western Union. Builders were hired on standby.

A little less than a year later, on October 2021, the classroom was entirely constructed and local children were able to attend school in a suitable environment.

Rebecca said, "this was such an enlightening experience because knowing that the little actions that I do here can make such an impact on people I have never met before makes me realize why 'every little bit matters.'"
C-World Volunteers are collaborating with Virginia Chamber Orchestra for a series of free concerts. More information at vco.events.

Hygiene and Cloth Drive

In the United States, 1 in 7 Americans is currently living below the poverty threshold. Many families don't have the necessary resources to stay clean.

United Mission for Relief & Development works with C-World Teenager Volunteer to help Afghan refugee families to get hygiene for new-born babies.

With the help of our volunteers, we distributed thousands of pieces of diapers, clothes, and hygiene baskets for many Afghan communities.

This is an ongoing series of events C-World is contributing with UMR.

HSK Test Tutoring

Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi(HSK) Test is one of the most authoritative Mandarin tests designed by Beijing Culture and Language University and directly operated by the Chinese Education Bureau. The test has recently become a major test for all students in the Mandarin program in BIM. If they reached level 6 of the test, students could get scholarships and free trips to China in the summer.
