Food Donations for Frontier Fighters Project10/31/2022 Updated 10 October 2022
Co-founder Rebecca Meng is one of the two starters of Food Donations for Frontier Fighters. In the peak of quarantine (2020), healthcare workers were overwhelmed by a major influx of patients and faced intense exhaustion, not to mention they were directly fighting in the front lines of the pandemic. To show her appreciation for these essential workers in the medical force, Rebecca and another friend contacted a variety of Chinese restaurants to ask if they were interested in donating food to the local hospital. By the end of the week, she picked up the 20+ takeout donations and hand-delivered them to the Reston Hospital. This project has been continued over the course of two years. Rebecca hopes that by collecting food for the doctors and nurses to enjoy, her appreciation for their hard-work was showed.

HSK Tutoring1/20/2022 Hanyu Shunping Kaoshi, or HSK Chinese Proficiency Test, is an international standardized exam that tests and rates Chinese language proficiency organized by the Confucious University and directly assessed and held by the education department of China. It assesses non-native Chinese speakers' abilities in using Chinese in daily, academic and professional scenarios.
We sent out many tutors to help contestants review, and the tutors were all praised for their hard work. Eventually, the BIM Test Center had a 100% pass rate on all of the tests.

Mid-Autumn Festival10/2/2021 In order to promote Chinese culture at the mid-autumn festival in BASIS Independent McLean, a volunteer activity was organized by the Chinese mandarin class club. Some of our classmates and their parents joined this volunteer, and they creatively designed and made traditional and modern, innovative lanterns with riddles on them. We collected dozens of lanterns, delivered them to our teacher, and hung them in our school. Our teacher held an activity of guessing riddles, and our classmates loved it!
With the help of our volunteers, our school was beautifully decorated, and many students became interested in Chinese culture. We are very proud and excited! |
